Picinc in the country

We had a picnic yesterday in the country, at Badger's Weir. It was a beautiful autumn day, and we had a brunch of barbecued sausages, and salads. Toby happily ate a whole banana, a piece of toast, some bread and some cheese cubes. I think the local birds recognised that baby = plenty of dropped food on the ground, and shortly after Toby threw the first piece of bread on the ground, Kookaburras, Magpies and Rosellas quickly flocked around us, perching in the trees, waiting for the right moment to pounce.

After gorging ourselves, we went for a walk through the forest. Toby in the baby bjorn. He loved it, seeing all the trees and wildlife.

But the fresh air seemed to completely tire him, and he was fast asleep before the end of the walk. Leaving us all to have cups of tea and cake back at the picnic area.

at my feet

It doesn't matter where he starts off in the room, this is where he ends up after just a few seconds....
at my feet.

Today, he is at my feet in my studio. I was sneaking in a bit of time on the sewing machine, and suddenly there he is, smiling up at me.

Trying to grab the foot pedal, grabbing at stray threads on the carpet, generally up to mischief.
He may not be crawling yet, but he can roll EVERYWHERE! I think I may have to start baby proofing the house, and growing eyes on the back of my head.

Wool and baby teeth don't mix

Who would have thought, that wool could be such fun?

I'm not being very creative today, (I am supposed to be, but all of my designs are still going straight into the trash) but Toby is.

He loved playing with the wool, the only snag being that it nearly resulted in a loss of teeth.

After getting over excited and stuffing it all in his mouth, some of it got caught around his bottom teeth. I had terrible flashbacks to Dad threatening to tie cotton around my lose teeth as a child, to pull them out.....but I managed to untangle the wool from Toby tiny little teeth with no damage done. But that is the last time he plays with wool. How is it that absolutely everything has potential to damage a baby?

Blueberries

Toby had blueberries for breakfast this morning.
I have been struggling with breakfast recently, he just won't eat it. Instead he prefers to grab it off the spoon and spread it over the table, or just raspberry it all out of his mouth and all over me.
So blueberries was my new strategy.
I pureed them yesterday evening, with some yoghurt and sat down with them in a grown up bowl with a grown up spoon. As soon as Toby saw me eat them, he wanted to try. You see, I have to be very cunning. If i pretend the food is for me, Toby will definitely eat it. If the food is only for him, there is a good chance he won't.

He loved the blueberries, but this morning I had a feeling the table wouldn't, so I covered it in a bright orange garbage bag. For Toby, the garbage bag was simply the best thing he had ever seen. Better than bubbles, better than balloons, he squealed with delight at it, rubbing his hands all over it, trying to stuff it in his mouth. He then realised that by pulling it, all the things on the table could be within reach (including my cup of tea...very dangerous). He was absolutley in heaven at breakfast, and an entire bowl of blueberries, yoghurt and banana was consumed, with no fuss whatsoever.
The only fuss happened afterwards. I had to scrub his face to get rid of the purple stains, I was not very popular.

Mothers Day

I keep meaning to post these pictures of Mother's Day, I don't know where all my time goes...

We did the Mothers Day walk around the Botanical gardens, all the money raised goes to support breast cancer, so I thought it was particularly apt this year.

We turned Toby around in his pram so he could see the world, he seemed to enjoy it, though it breaks my heart. He was crying at one point, (he doesn't like voices over megaphones) and I didn't even know, so ever since he has been facing me. I think we both prefer it that way. (At least, that's what I tell myself)

New furniture

I have always loved Indian bone inlay furniture, and have wanted a 'piece' (Luis mocks me for using that word) for as long as I can remember. After spotting this cabinet and mirror, at 90% off, I couldn't believe my luck. I was meant to have them!

Relaxing

We had a lovely relaxing day yesterday. A late breakfast at the European, a stroll into the city, and then a walk along the yarra. It was a beautiful cloudless sky day, with a slight chill in the air

Toby practised some of his yoga poses.....
