A rare moment...

he's on his tummy and smiling at the same time!
He's been a bit frustrated again today, trying to work out how to crawl. Still not progressing much, just looking like he's swimming on the spot, his facing turning red with all the effort and all the anger.

My favourite pose

This has to be my all time favourite Toby pose.

He does it when he is tired, and its an intricate set of movements, that I love to watch him do. It involves him firstly staring at his hands, then he brings them together in front of his face, one hand resting on the wrist of the other and his thumb poking out. He then carefully moves the two hands towards his face, his thumb into his waiting mouth and the other arm across his eyes shading them from light. He sucks for just a second or two before pulling his hands away. Then the whole manoeuvre starts again, over and over, often until he is put into his cot to sleep.

He falls asleep in this way every night.

In his high chair...

...at the table. Toby is eating all his meals now at the table, and this shot was taken just after breakfast, (pureed pears and organic yoghurt) and he is loving it. He sat for ages joyously in his high chair yesterday afternoon as I worked at the dining room table. Looking at his books and throwing them on the floor, chewing rusks and throwing them on the floor, playing with his toy monkey, then throwing that on the floor....you get the idea. Everything gets thrown, repeatedly. I didn't mind though, it was lovely to both be sitting happily at the table together for a fairly extended period of time..

Family Sunday Brunch

Sunday was a lovely, lazy day for us. After our first night out without Toby, we walked back into the city, where we had left our car. This was followed by a relaxing late brunch in Middle Park, before embarking on our photo expedition for the F1 Badger.

At brunch, Toby insisted on trying the food we were eating and he nibbled on his first bits of cornbread. He loved it.

Birthday Present

Yum yum, Toby's daddy feeding him banana and yoghurt, his new favourite food. And he's sitting in his highchair now....all grown up.
I had a lovely birthday weekend, and Toby decided to celebrate it too, by waking up crying at 4am. What's going on???! I'd got used to him sleeping through the night, please don't start waking up again!
Well he made up for it by buying me a lovely present. A little book on poster artist Herve Morvan. Such great taste for such a little man. Well done Toby. And anyway, who can be cross at a beautiful face like this for long?

Snuggly afternoon

Lying on the couch together this afternoon, feeding Toby his bottle, he started falling asleep. This is a pretty rare event, as he likes to avoid daytime sleeping as much as he can of late. But I lay next to him, we babbled to each other for a while, and Toby was so lovely and snuggly and sleepy, so I took these photos of him.

Then I let him play under the striped knitted blanket, he loves that blanket and always reaches out for it, but I never let him near it. I bought that blanket when I was pregnant with Toby, and there was an old lady next to me who told me I really shouldn't buy it because it would be dangerous for babies. They'd get their fingers stuck in the large holes. And even though at the time I was really annoyed with her, (what is it about being pregnant that means people can say what they like to you?) I still remember her comments, and get scared if Toby goes any where near that blanket. But I let him grab it today, and he had such fun snuggling under it. After I took the photos, I climbed under the blanket next to him and we read books together. I made animal sounds and Toby laughed at me and blew raspberries. Then he fell asleep, it was a blissful afternoon.

Happy 6th month birthday!

The little man is 6 months old today, on one hand the time has flown, on the other, that day at the hospital feels so far away.....

He's really growing up now, and he gets more fun every day. I had him in fits of laughter this morning by blowing kisses, for some reason this is the funniest thing ever. That, and pretending to be a lion who is about to eat his tummy, the general reaction to that is fits of laughter too. So I end up doing it a lot. There is nothing more rewarding than the sound of Toby laughing.
He has taken also to blowing raspberries whilst eating food. This is a new thing he has discovered over the last few days. I can't help but laugh every time he does it, which makes him do it even more. But it is also most annoying, at the end of meal time we are both covered in food, and so is the floor....
He's not quite sitting up yet, but getting there. On Saturday we had breakfast at Healsville with Matt and Sophie and baby Millie, and Toby sat next to me at the table like a big boy.

He also gave Millie a big hug, he was very gentle with her. So sweet.

On Sunday, we tried out the bouncer that he got for Christmas. He just loved it! He hasn't worked out how to bounce yet, but I think he likes the feeling of standing up by himself. He was squealing in delight.

Still Crazy...

...his hair I mean. It still sticks up like a cockatoo, in a mini mohawk.
It's his trademark.

Things I seem to do all day......

1. And I really mean ALL day, is turning Toby from his tummy onto his back. He really does spend the greatest part of the day rolling onto his tummy and then crying. Pretty much immediately. He does it on the floor, on his play gym, in his cot, it's relentless!

2. Stare at his teeth. I'm obsessed with them, they seem to grow more everyday, and I think he's going to look so cute when they are fully grown. I just love them.

3. Make Toby food. Now that he has formula and solid food, I really do spend the whole day preparing it, giving it to him and then cleaning up afterwards. It's a messy process. (and it seems to mean there is more poo than ever before too....)
